What is Sunday Best?

Do you like stories? Are you sitting comfortably? Good, then I’ll begin...

Sunday Best is a Heritage Lottery Funded project to explore stories about you - and your relatives - Sunday Best.
Do you remember dressing up during the 1950’s to 1980’s? Do you have any photographs from that time, particularly of special occasions? Are you interested in vintage fashion, fabrics, telling stories or creating images? Maybe you love history or are researching a family tree and want to share what you have found…
If so, come and take part in this free project around celebrating the best of vintage fashion in Pendle, the great tales and happy memories of when people wore their Sunday Best.
Every Thursday and Friday from 10 until 1pm at The Shop, Nelson (in the Old Post Office, diagonally opposite Wavelengths) we have an artist and a vintage historian waiting to share their expertise. It’s all free and everyone is welcome. We need you!
Each Thursday morning we are offering free creative workshops when you can learn a variety of hands-on art techniques including printing, collage and combining images. You will learn a variety of techniques and approaches to working with different materials and be able to use these to produce a record of the stories and clothes you are interested in. Everything you need will be provided and every session is suitable for complete beginners.
On Fridays our vintage historian will be sharing the different styles of the 1950’s to 1980’s, the shapes and silhouettes, the fabrics and haberdashery, discussions about dressing up and colours, make do and mend and more. These workshops are free and interactive and run every Friday from November 2015 until March 2016. You can come along to one or all, to take part or just listen. Everyone is welcome.
If you can't attend in person we invite you to read the lectures and see the stories through this site...
